Good for Kent Bazemore. The guy went undrafted out of Old Dominion, saw minimal playing time for two seasons in Golden State and basically became known as a bench cheerleader. He then landed with the Lakers and was cast off by them after starting 15 games. Now he’s found a home in Atlanta and a new $70 million contract to go along with it. Bazemore had what would be considered a breakout season for the Hawks in 2015-16, starting 68 games while averaging 11.6 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Bazemore got a bit emotional when speaking on his return to Atlanta today:

Kent Bazemore loves playing for the Atlanta Hawks and looks like Chance the Rapper. Those are the big takeaways here. As for the Hawks, bold prediction right here. #2 seed in the East. People are going to downgrade them as Horford left for the Celtics and Teague is now on the Pacers. Getting rid of Teague is a good thing though as he is one of the more overrated players in the league and it will allow “German Rondo” Dennis Schroder to officially take over the starting point guard role with Jarrett Jack backing him up.
It’s really easy to hate on the Dwight Howard signing. He’s been absolute garbage for a couple seasons now, but I think we see a rejuvenated Howard this season who will fit in very nicely with this team. I love him playing next to Millsap. Kyle Korver had an unusually terrible season last year shooting under 40% from three for the first time since 2008-09 with the Jazz. A bounce-back is definitely not out of the question. Throw in valuable role players off the bench like Thabo Sefolosha and Mike Scott and the Hawks are going to be the team that they have been for the past couple seasons now under head coach Mike Budenholzer.
